The Wayne McGregor and Random Dance project is part of the festival and brings together alongside andfor the world premi猫re of the site-specific performance Scavenger. Appearing in the Collezione’s spaces on 16 and 17 November, McGregor will present four performances together with the Italian premi猫re of Atomos at on 15 November.
Studying the works of art on display at the Collezione Maramotti, McGregor directs his dancers in Random Dance to do the same and they have recorded their impressions and thoughts in small notebooks. Each dancer investigates a specific work, responding to it with their bodies and reflecting a new interpretation back to the audience and the other dancers. Scavenger is a site-specific performance, conceived, directed, and choreographed by McGregor, who refers to the piece as 鈥渁 new challenge鈥.
Inspired by the architecture of the building that houses the Collezione Maramotti, the choreographer uses it as a starting point to build a narrative around the body. The dialogue of the dance is punctuated by the distance between performer and space, making the performance fluid and organic. The final piece is a combination of the dancers鈥 creativity, McGregor’s vision and a digital sculpture, interpreting the dancer’s movements and presented live on a screen.
