The Aesthetica Art Prize 2016 Countdown: 15 Days to Go – Artists’ Film

罢丑别听听celebrates contemporary projects in a wide variety of mediums, from drawing, painting and photography to sculpture, installation, video and performance. Now half-way through our countdown to the Art Prize call for entries deadline, we take time to reflect on longlisted artist听Lorenza Ippolito and her experimental film听Seed to Seed.

Seed to Seed is a 20听minute film that uses seeds as a metaphor to analyse the links between biodiversity (the seed) and cultural diversity (themes of identity and belonging) and what happens when globalisation impacts upon them. The film situates the idea of belonging as a complex mechanism that is intimately tied to the basic human need for food, as well as the need to be nourished physically and spiritually. Featuring a travel documentary from India; images from Kew Gardens鈥 Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst in West Sussex; and footage from workshops held in Brighton, the filmis part of a larger body of work supported by .

Lorenza Ippolito’s piece appeared in the Aesthetica Art Prize 2015 exhibition and can be found听in the current publication Future Now. The annual award is听open for entries until 31 August.
