There are only 11 days to go until the Aesthetica Art Prize closes for entries. The annual award welcomes entries from across the world and celebrates contemporary projects in a wide variety of mediums, from drawing, painting and photography to sculpture, installation, video and performance. Today, we shine a spotlight on artist Joomi Chung’s longlisted installation Swarm.
Based on the Deleuzian idea of rhizome, Chung’s work聽investigates forms that emerge from a process of drawing ideas and sensations in three-dimensional space. Through the act of weaving lines, the individual structures in Swarm are fused together and become part of a gradually expanding mass, resulting in a concentration of lines that continually grows and spreads into the space. It is an area made of heterogeneous forms that multiply, mutate, entangle and disintegrate through a dense accumulation of contours and intervals.
Chung’s piece appeared in the Aesthetica Art Prize 2015 exhibition and can be found聽in the current publication Future Now. The annual award is聽open for entries until 31 August.
