Songdog鈥檚 latest release combines electronic sounds and orchestral overtures mellowing out into acoustic languor.
Singer/Songwriter, Lyndon Morgan, has several strings to his bow including being an award-winning poet, which certainly shows in the lyrics, exploring love, loss, life and the poignancy of passing time. Hailing from Blackwood in South Wales, the songs are doleful laments, the honesty of Morgan鈥檚 poetry slicing through the acoustic loveliness.
A highlight on the album is I Got Drunk and Wrote You a Poem, beginning with a string quartet, which wouldn鈥檛 sound out of place at a high-class wedding, and soon gives way to Morgan鈥檚 brutal honesty, 鈥淚 got so smashed I couldn鈥檛 find my way home.鈥 The ironic contradiction between the music and lyrics is one of the beauties of this album, as Songdog鈥檚 singer combines the vocal sound of Johnny Cash with the apocalyptic melancholy of Nick Cave.
A Life Eroding was released 19 April, and Songdog was at Peter Parker鈥檚 Rock 鈥榥鈥 Roll Club, London on 22 April 2010. .
