Dominique L茅vy New York聽opens聽its first聽exhibition with the artist Senga聽Nengudi. Organised by Begum聽Yasar, this selection of recent聽sculptures and 1970s performance聽stills inaugurates Dominique L茅vy’s The Back聽Room, the gallery鈥檚 new 3rd floor聽project space.聽In the 1970s, Nengudi worked in聽Los Angeles as part of an聽emerging community of African聽American artists that engaged with聽multiple radical political聽movements underway in the United聽States and around the globe.聽Using quotidian materials to create installations, sculptures, performances,聽and videos, these artists were key participants in the emergence of identity politics
within the visual arts.
