Marking its eight edition,returns to present 60 national and international galleries, exhibiting a mix of emerging and established artists. Covering a variety of media, photography, painting, sculpture, performance, installation and video art, the fair celebrates artistic practice and a range of talent from 9 May until 12 May.
PULSE New York is divided into several sections to make viewing pleasurable and easily accessible. In the main section, the strength of the international galleries involved is evident. has returned to New York, after several years away from the art fair circuit, with paintings by emerging artists Koen Vermeule, Aylin Langreuter, and Florian Thomas. Also from will present new paintings by Matthias Meyer, and young artist Anna Navasardian, in addition to Yigal Ozeri’s oil on paper works, and photographs by Dieter Rehm and Philipp Lachenmann. Represented from Tokyo will be , which was the first contemporary art gallery in the city, founded in 1950 the gallery showcases the works of acclaimed Japanese artist Yoshio Murakami, alongside the work of emerging artist Miki Taira.
Aside from the main section is IMPULSE, highlighting a selection of galleries presenting solo exhibitions by emerging artists. Included in the line up are presenting South African artist Johann Ryno de Wet;, featuring photographer Kurt Tong; showing Dutch artist Marjolijn De Wit whose collage work explores man鈥檚 impact on nature; and dedicating its booth to the installations and miniature models of Guillaume Lachapelle. One of the new talents represented in IMPULSE is Ambreen Butt, who exhibits I Am My Lost Diamond, which was created for Realms of Intimacy at the in 2011. It was comprised of over 20,000 casts of fingertips and toes that were installed directly on a 13′ x 70′ wall. In response to a 2010 suicide bomb in Butt’s native Pakistan, the installation will be paired with large work on paper, In God We Trust.
There are also many galleries exhibiting for the first time at PULSE New York, including , seasoned New York photography dealer Steven Kasher, (London) and (New York). Other highlights include Ali Kazma, who was recently selected for the Turkish Pavilion at the Venice Bienale, in the booth of (New York) andpresent wall reliefs from Cambodian artist Sopheap Pich, who currently has a solo exhibition at
