The 31st edition of takes听place听over two weeks听this summer. Part 1 covers textiles and听fashion, costume design, jewellery and听precious metalwork, ceramic and听glass, and contemporary design crafts听from 29 June – 2 July, while听Part 2 will focus听on听furniture, product and听industrial design, spatial design, graphic design, illustration, animation and motion and听digital arts from 6 – 9 July.
The fair听promotes听fresh ideas and provides a platform for emerging design talent to converge with commissioners and key recruiters working in听the听creative industries. Over 3,000 of this year鈥檚 most ambitious graduates from across the UK are welcomed to New Designers; ready to showcase their latest projects to businesses, aficionados and enthusiasts alike.
New Designers Awards will be presented to innovative graduates in partnership with leading brands and organisations across both parts of the fair. These Awards offer winners and runners-up essential support as they embark on their professional careers.
Special sector One Year On showcases a group of over 50 emerging designers in their first year of business. For this, designers are selected by a panel of experts across the industry based on the strength of their work, flair and quality of their product. All exhibited work is available to purchase or commission, making One Year On a bespoke marketplace for design.
Jewellery designer, photographer and founder of the boutique Luna and Curious, Rheanna Lingham returns to curate One Year On saying: 鈥淭he show really is a must-see for the sheer array of fantastic work, but also to hope that a morsel of the enthusiasm and excitement of these designers may rub off on us鈥.
Highlights from One Year On 2016 include Jack Lennie BDC New Designer of the Year 2015, who has created a downloadable, no weld motorcycle kit called Tinker which reduces vehicle waste and makes sustainability more accessible; SEIN by Dan Vo which is a sustainable menswear range, using zero-waste pattern cutting and seamless knitting technology; and Thomas Pullin, whose illustrations have been used by The Guardian, The New Yorker and Vice.
