Munich鈥檚 U-Bahn underground system has 100 stations. It first operated in 1971, in preparation for the city鈥檚 Olympic Games and today, around 452 million passengers use the system each year. Its sleek and monochromatic stations are the subject of photographer Thibault Drutel鈥檚聽Symmetric Subway: Stillness in Motion.聽The artist contrasts the solidity of architecture with the ephemeral blur of passing trains, capturing a moment of deliberate stillness amid perpetual motion. Drutel explains: 鈥淒evoid of human presence, the stations are distilled to their pure form: spaces defined by geometry, color, and engineered rhythm. The compositions invite reflection on the aesthetics of public space, the choreography of urban life, and the quiet beauty found within the everyday.鈥 The artist uses long exposure techniques and a fixed tripod setup to render the dynamic contrasts visible. In his hands, time becomes tangible, motion is etched into the static.聽Symmetric Subway聽is part of a wider, international series featuring underground stations in Berlin, Brussels, Hamburg and Stockholm.聽
