Life, a Sport Jules Decrauzat – A Pioneer of Photoreportage at Fotostiftung Schweiz, Winterthur, sheds new light on more than 1,250 glass negÂaÂtives datÂing from the peÂriod beÂtween 1910 and 1925 that had surÂvived the ravÂages of time in the archive of the Swiss picÂture agency Keystone. While the qualÂity of the phoÂtographs is known, the circumÂstances under which they were taken is largely obÂscure. The work of Switzerland’s first important photojournalist, Jules Decrauzat (1879-1960), extends far beyond sports photography in the narrower sense, and successfully portrays his era and its fascination with speed.
