Within a Realm of Distance, a new exhibition to be hosted by , will display various pieces created聽throughout American artist Lawrence Weiner鈥檚 extensive career from 10 October until 21 December. Known for his founding role in the 1960s Conceptual Art movement, the artist’s work often takes the form of聽typographic texts. Michael Frahm, Director at聽Blenheim Art聽Foundation comments:聽鈥淸His] work is subjective, accessible and functional and he is perhaps best described as a sculptor who has redefined the artist-viewer relationship using language as his primary medium.鈥
The exhibition is to be held in the historic setting of Blenheim Palace, and sees Weiner鈥檚 artwork integrated throughout the palace’s聽ornately furnished rooms, as well as on the exterior of the 18th century building. Weiner invites visitors to experience his work in tandem with the rich heritage of Blenheim, using the its聽historic collections as a support structure for his artistic vision.
Within a Realm of Distance is the second exhibition to be curated by Blenheim Art Foundation, which was created last year by Lord Edward Spencer-Churchill in order to offer visitors contemporary art exhibitions in an alternative setting. The first was by Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei, whose exhibition for the palace included heaps of conceptual crabs and strategically placed chandeliers.
