Crowhurst’s graduate collection is historically inspired and focuses on the real story of mariner Michael Greenwood (1731鈥1812). The designer discovered Greenwood during lockdown; his life was detailed on a plaque in their shared hometown of Faversham. Whilst in the Navy, aged 17, he was press-ganged and taken as a slave by Moroccan pirates. After 17 months, he was ransomed and returned home. A photo of Crowhurst鈥檚 late grandfather, Jim, who was in the Navy in the 1950s, further inspired this collection. He lived his entire life in Faversham and served almost exactly 200 years after Greenwood. 鈥淭his contemporary A/W collection serves to perform the narrative of the mariner’s enslavement, as imagined through my eyes.鈥
