Running from 13 March – 7 April 2014, the Great Architecture Fair will be the Royal Academy鈥檚 first ever architecture fair, providing visitors with varying budgets a unique chance to own aspects of this ground-breaking exhibition.
Sensing Spaces considers architecture from the angle of the human encounter: how vision, touch, sound and memory play a role in our perceptions of space, proportion, materials and light. Seven of the world鈥檚 most original and exciting architects have created bespoke installations that take over the Main Galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts to convey the power of architecture.
Global in scope, the architects include Pritzker-prize winners to emerging practices: Grafton Architects (Ireland); Di茅b茅do Francis K茅r茅 (Germany/Burkina Faso); Kengo Kuma (Japan); Li Xiaodong (China); Pezo von Ellrichshausen (Chile); 脕lvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura (Portugal).
The Great Architecture Fair will allow the original works from Sensing Spaces to go on to have a life beyond the exhibition. Ranging from complete installation pieces to unique experiences, prices will start from 拢5. Items for sale include a bag of pebbles used in Li Xiaodong鈥檚 labyrinth, Di茅b茅do Francis K茅r茅鈥檚 furniture with inventive use of honeycomb plastic and a private out of hour鈥檚 tour of the exhibition. Complete installations include Eduardo Souto de Moura鈥檚 concrete arches and 脕lvaro Siza鈥檚 yellow columns. The Royal Academy will also be offering Golden Tickets, which will enter the holder into a prize draw to win a special object from the exhibition.
Visitors to the online Great Architecture Fair will be able to browse the full list of items available and purchase directly online. All proceeds raised from the fair will support the Royal Academy鈥檚 internationally renowned exhibition programme, allowing the institution to continue bringing world-class projects, such as Sensing Spaces to new audiences.
