The online platform announces 180 of the most promising emerging artists at a critical moment, when they are poised to become established artists, chosen by 30 world-leading curators. A streamed selection of the artist鈥檚 work, including rising stars from across the globe, will be shown on the exhibition that opens 26 April. BiennaleOnline is the first curated, exclusively online biennial exhibition of contemporary art. Facilitating links between organisations and practitioners operating within the global biennial community by providing resources and an open platform for exchange, collaboration and research.
The first platform of its kind, BiennaleOnline makes available a curated selection of artists鈥 work on any Internet-enabled device, anywhere in the world. A modular interface allows visitors to follow the specially curated paths and quickly sort selections according to artist, medium, region, and other criteria, and to view works in relation to those of other artists or zoom in to examine details and surfaces. Users may also define and tag routes themselves, creating personalised maps to share their favourite artists through social media forums, including Art+, Twitter and Facebook.
The team consists of leading international curators who are affiliated with prestigious museums such as the in New York, in Paris, the in London, in Stockholm, in Warsaw, in Ghent, in Seoul, the in Tokyo, the in Ottawa, the in Hornu, the in Detroit, and the in New York.
The 30 leading curators selected five artists each, with a minimum of two from their own country. The number of works per artist was unlimited and the curators chose at least one piece from each of the following categories: photography, new media, installation, performance, and traditional media (painting, drawing, sculpture).
