The judging panel for the features a selection of key art world professionals, with combined expertise聽covering聽all media from photography to design and video art to painting. The panel includes Alex Newson, Senior Curator at the , who along with the other judges will be looking for work that is new and distinct. The Art Prize is open for entries until 31 August 2015.
Joining the Design Museum in 2009, Newson聽is responsible for curating original and international touring exhibitions, assisting with educational events, collections development and overseeing the museum鈥檚 interpretation strategy.聽He has curated numerous exhibitions including Designs of the Year, a retrospective on the German designer Dieter Rams, and a project to curate and reinstall the Design Museum鈥檚 permanent collection, making it available to the public for the first time in over five years.
He has worked on an exhibition celebrating the impact of design on sport, which was first shown to coincide with the 2012 London Olympics, before going on to tour multiple international museum venues. Most recently he curated The Future is Here: A New Industrial Revolution, an award-winning exploration of digital fabrication and its influence on design and manufacturing.
Before joining the Design Museum, Newson聽previously worked at the National Trust, the Ashmolean Museum and Sir John Soane鈥檚 Museum. He聽was also the curator of BT鈥檚 heritage department, where he managed a significant telecommunications collection and helped develop permanent galleries in numerous museums across the UK.
