S莯2 Gallery is currently playing host to an impressive collection of photographs taken from the influential D眉sseldorf School of Photography. A New Objectivity brings together some of the greatest practitioners at work today in a selling exhibition of important images. Running until 17 January, the show demonstrates the outstanding artists to come out of the institution.
Bernd and Hilla Becher taught numerous students who went on to be leaders in the photographic world, including Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Candida H枚fer, Axel H眉tte and Thomas Ruff. The Becher’s practice encapsulated a strongly objective approach to capturing industrial architecture. Inspiring a generation of German photographers, the duo’s clear vision directed the students in their care. Between 1976 and 1986, the alumni from the first official class of Photography at the Kunstakademie D眉sseldorf became known throughout the world and acquired legendary status. This phenomenon that has since marked a turning point in the history of photographic practice.
