Responsive Projects

The four projects shortlisted for the RIBA International Prize 2018 – judged by a Jury including Elizabeth Diller and Kazuyo Sejima – combine visionary design with a timely educational and ecological responsiveness.

For example, sustainable residential building Il Bosco Verticale, Milan, by Boeri Studio allows trees and humans to coexist, offering a new housing model for the 21st century. Also looking to ideas of connection is Nikken Sekkei’s Toho Gakuen School of Music, which aims to brings students together through a striking visual approach.

Other shortlisted structures include the Central European University, Budapest, by O’Donnell + Tuomey, a new university campus which combines old buildings and courtyards to create vibrant new spaces. Finally, Aleph Zero + Rosenbaum’s Children Village in Brazil offers education and accommodation to the children of rural farm workers, facilitating tangible change.
