The result of a five-year renovation project, the new Nationalmuseum – Swedish Museum of Fine Arts and Design, Stockholm, opens this week, presenting over 5000 artworks spanning six centuries. Architects involved include Josefin Larsson and Gert Wing氓rdh from Wing氓rdhs and Erik Wikerst氓l from Wikerst氓l Arkitekter, who were commissioned by the National Property Board.
Combining classic and contemporary, the design takes a colour scheme from original 1866 building. To offer an enhanced viewing experience, glass elements allow light to flood in, illuminating the two upcoming exhibitions – each looking at current trends in Swedish design.
