The Doomsday Clock represents the likelihood of a manmade global catastrophe. Maintained since 1947 by the members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, we鈥檙e now at 100 seconds to midnight.
Victor Chan’s Will There Be Hope on Doomsday is a short series which challenges our conception of apocalypse and imagines it a new arena: as a Utopia. The photographer notes: “It plays with the idea of purity, minimalism and supremacy of nature.”
鈥淭he expression of this series is optimistic. If we were to reach the end of our civilisation, there will be hope when we start all over again. Humans as children will, once again, learn and adapt to this new change. But whether any of this achievable is reserved for interpretation.
Victor Chan is an undergraduate majoring in Film. Having grown up in Hong Kong, he鈥檚 now located in the UK, immersing himself in different landscapes and experimenting with different story-telling techniques.聽
