Into The Underworld / Ng膩 Mahi Rarowhenua explores the lava caves in Auckland. The caves are unique to the volcanic region, and are considered w膩hi tapu (sacred) by the local M膩ori people. Through exercises in mapping, archiving and revealing, the work takes an empirical approach to bring something fictionalised into the domain of public visibility, highlighting something to be recognised, preserved and managed as a shared heritage.
