The eleventh edition of Beazley Designs of the Year – now on view at Design Museum, London – comprises 87 nominations across six categories:聽Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Graphics, Product and Transport. Looking to sustainable solutions, innovative projects include the world’s first plastic free aisle by Made Thought for Ekoplaza and聽Algae Lab by Studio Klarenbeek & Dros at Atelier Luma, which highlights the potential of algae as a replacement for non-biodegradable plastics.
Featured above is 2017’s architecture winner, Sir David Adjaye OBE’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. This year’s nominees include聽Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi, which聽juxtaposes white concrete cubes with a vast star-patterned dome, creating an otherworldly platform for artistic appreciation. Following the Chilean government鈥檚 pledge to rejuvenate the city of Concepci贸n after the 2010 earthquake, Smiljan Radic, Eduardo Castillo and Gabriela Medrano are also nominated for the B铆o B铆o Regional Theatre in Chile.
