The first UK solo show of work by FOAM Talent 2017 winner Vasantha Yogananthan (b.1985) opens at The Photographer’s Gallery, London.聽A Myth of Two Souls is inspired聽by the Indian legend of The Ramayana, and follows a journey from north to south India to trace the impact of the epic myth on everyday Indian life.
Yogananthan’s works – which combine documentary and fiction – are created聽exclusively in analogue, offering a distinctive aesthetic that is at once ethereal and compelling.聽Providing a contemporary retelling, they form part of a continuously shifting narrative, bringing together evocative, dreamlike images that interlace history, fiction and vernacular realism through a subtle colour palette.
