Changing Perceptions

The shortlist exhibition for Artes Mundi 8 takes place at National Museum Cardiff, bringing together visionary contemporary artists engaging with timely socio-political issues. This year’s selection includes multidisciplinary artist Trevor Paglen, whose work investigates state scrutiny and classified satellites. Unearthing the unseen, the practitioner brings into focus contemporary issues of data collection and global surveillance through photography,聽sculpture, investigative journalism, writing and engineering.

Other shortlisted practitioners include: Anna Boghiguian, Bouchra Khalili,聽 Otobong Nkanga and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

Karen MacKinnon, Director and Curator, notes: “Artes Mundi’s unique focus on the human condition enables us to bring together artists from all over the world whose art can inspire and challenge the way we see and inhabit our world. Through their diverse practices they consider urgent themes.”
