Seminal photographer and Hollywood star Dennis Hopper (1936-2010) re-invented the iconography of the lens to document both social upheaval in the Western world, and the contemporary condition of America emerging through subcultures and modernist pioneers such as Robert Rauschenberg and聽.聽Both socially engaged and critically aware, the images provide an intimate view of changing political undercurrents.聽鈥淚 think Dennis鈥 work is much less driven by celebrity, and much more driven by aesthetics and composition.鈥 – Co-curator, Sam Mellon.
