The Aesthetica Art Prize is open for entries for its 2017/18 edition. Each year, our dynamic Judging Panel selects the winning works from a shortlist, making the Prize an ideal opportunity to gain industry exposure. We reflect on the former panel for 2016/17 in preparation for next year. Chief Executive of York Museums Trust, Reyahn King previously worked as the Director of Art Galleries at National Museums Liverpool, Head of Exhibitions and Interpretation at Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery and Head of Heritage Lottery Fund West Midlands. She also chaired and participated in sessions at Aesthetica’s Future Now Symposium.
York Museums Trust looks after several iconic historical and heritage sites in the city of York: York Castle Museum, the Yorkshire Museum and Gardens, York St Mary鈥檚 and York Art Gallery. In her early career Reyahn was a Curator of Prints and Drawings at Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery. She chaired the Jury for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2008 and 2010, and was a judge for Liverpool Art Prize 2008. This year, the York Art Gallery plays host to the Aesthetica Art Prize, which is open daily 10am-5pm until 10 September.
Running alongside the Art Prize Exhibition at York Art Gallery is聽Doug Fishbone鈥檚 Leisure Land Golf.聽Each golf hole has been designed by leading contemporary artists, including Turner Prize shortlisted Yinka Shonibare and John Akomfrah OBE, and challenges the social and political issues of today鈥檚 society. Part of聽a touring exhibition by New Art Exchange (NAE), Nottingham, the piece was originally commissioned by EM15 for the 56th Venice Biennale.
Currently accepting submissions until 31 August, the Prize is an opportunity for international practitioners to showcase their work to wider audiences. Artists are invited to enter the competition as many times as they wish, bolstering their chances of being selected as one of our top 100 practitioners in 2018.聽Prizes include up to 拢5,000 for the winner; participation in a group exhibition hosted by Aesthetica; editorial coverage in 人妻少妇专区; publication in聽Future Now: 100 Contemporary Artists聽for both longlisted and shortlisted artists; 拢250 art supplies vouchers courtesy of Winsor & Newton; and art books courtesy of Prestel.
