Art Basel heads to the U.S. for its highly popular Miami Beach event, bringing together聽a total of 267 leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa to showcase the world鈥檚 best established and emerging artists in the field of Modern and contemporary art. prides itself in its diverse and ground-breaking programme, which spans the disciplines of painting, sculpture, installation, photography and film. Alongside a vast selection of international exhibitors from 32 countries across North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, Art Basel Miami Beach offers聽a platform for large-scale artworks, performance and film with an animated line-up聽at nearby Collins Park and SoundScape Park.
Returning to Miami Beach Convention Center from 3 December, this will be Art Basel鈥檚 14th edition in the coastal resort city. The fair, whose lead partner is UBS, welcomes 191 galleries to the main sector of the show. In addition to a strong list of returning exhibitors, Vedovi Gallery and Mazzoleni will be in attendance for the first time, whilst Galerie Barbara Thumm and ProjecteSD return to the sector after a brief pause. Having previously shown in Art Basel Miami Beach鈥檚 specialist sectors Nova, Positions or Survey, Andrew Edlin Gallery, Kerlin Gallery and Mendes Wood DM have graduated into the Galleries sector.
Following its well-received debut last year, Survey returns with 14 exhibitions of historically informed works. Presentations include work by Charles Burchfield (DC Moore Gallery), Peter Campus (Cristin Tierney Gallery), Gianni Colombo (Robilant + Voena), Roy DeCarava (Jenkins Johnson Gallery), Rosalyn Drexler (Garth Greenan Gallery), Dorothy Iannone (Peres Projects), Wang Jinsong (Beijing Art Now Gallery), Heinz Mack (Beck & Eggeling), Keith Sonnier (Castelli Gallery) and more.
Meanwhile, emerging artists sector Positions will feature a study on Mexican symbolism by Fritzia Irizar at Arredondo Arozarena; an installation by Dan Bayles at Fran莽ois Ghebaly Gallery; work by Vittorio Brodmann at Galerie Gregor Staiger; and mixed-media work by Jarom铆r Novotn媒 at hunt kastner. Nova, the younger galleries sector, will feature 34 exhibitors including Freedman Fitzpatrick with Tobias Madison and Matthew Lutz-Kinoy; Take Ninagawa with Elias Hansen, Shinro Ohtake and Aki Sasamoto; and Galeria Leme with for Luciano Figueiredo, Sandra Gamarra and Mauro Piva. Elsewhere, 12 leading organisations specialising in the field of prints and limited-edition works will grace the Edition sector. Key exhibitors include Alan Cristea Gallery, Carolina Nitsch, Pace Prints, Paragon, Paul Stolper Gallery and more.
In addition to showing premier artworks ranging from Modern masters to the latest contemporary pieces across five gallery sectors, many exhibitors will present works in Art Basel’s project-based sectors: Kabinett, Public and Film. In 2015 Nicholas Baume, Director and Chief Curator of Public Art Fund, has curated his third show for the art fair. This year鈥檚 programme, entitled Metaforms, will see 27 large-scale and site-specific installations and performances by artists from over 11 countries transform Miami Beach鈥檚 Collins Park into an outdoor exhibition space.聽Produced in collaboration with the Bass Museum of Art, the sector will include significant works by Olaf Breuning, James Capper, Tom谩s Saraceno, Tony Cragg, Melvin Edwards, Sam Falls, Sylvie Fleury, Katharina Grosse, Matt Johnson, Jacob Kassay, Kris Martin and others.
