The Aesthetica Art Prize 2016 Countdown: 7 Days to Go - Sculpture

The Aesthetica Art Prize 2016 call for entries countdown continues today looking at聽Patricia Mato-Mora, a ceramic artist and writer based in London. Her work聽鲍苍迟颈迟濒别诲听(2014) was selected for this year鈥檚 Aesthetica Art Prize longlist and is featured in 2015鈥檚 guide to new, pioneering artists,聽.

Before embarking upon a graduate course at the Royal College of Art, Mato-Mora studied architecture at the Architectural Association, and ceramics under the professorship of Magdalene Odundo. Her聽work involves creating ceramic pieces with a strong narrative function that engages with space, bridging the gap between materiality and spatiality that architecture mediates through drawings.

As聽a writer also,聽the boundary between what she writes and what she makes is blurred. Clay is capable of articulating human emotion beyond the limitations of language, and spaces are vessels for stories, winking at our collective imagination. Untitled occupies a seemingly empty area through suspended clay forms, which buckle and blister organically along its vertical support. Mato-Mora co-founded and run the enterprise Drawing the City, and she also teaches at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, as well as being a regular critic at architecture schools nationwide.

The Aesthetica Art Prize is a celebration of excellence in art from across the world. It offers both emerging and established artists the opportunity to showcase their work to a wider audience.聽Prizes聽include 拢5,000 Main Prize courtesy of , 拢1,000 Student Prize courtesy of Hiscox, a group exhibition in partnership with , publication in the Aesthetica Art Prize Anthology, editorial in Aesthetica聽(186,000 readership worldwide), art books courtesy of , and art supplies vouchers courtesy of
