This week, Aesthetica selects five new shows from across the world 鈥 digital objects, innovative designs and introspective photography make sense of life in the 21st century.

Blurring the lines between portraiture, documentary and mediated reality, Starkey鈥檚 body of work represents the experiences of women today. Moments of interior life are explored alongside images from the 2017 Women鈥檚 March in London. Until 9 February.

Positioning 19th century photography alongside contemporary works by the likes of Elina Brotherus, Julia Fullerton-Batten and Ellen Kooi, Faces draws an intriguing study of portraiture. The collection taps into ideas of authenticity and identity. Until 16 March.

Designer Wales Bonner uses fashion to explore self-expression. Bringing together literary, musical and visual references, Serpentine鈥檚 show articulates cultural narratives 鈥 themes of mysticism and ritual are unpacked in an immersive experience. Opens 19 January.

Holdsworth鈥檚 Spatial Objects are intriguing portraits of individual pixels 鈥 the building blocks of vision in the digital age. Offering a 21st century interpretation of the landscape genre, the works draw attention to the omnipresence of screens. Until 17 March.
